Concentration
- It is a game that not only teaches rhythm but it’s also a great game that helps reinforce different subject areas.
- You can start off with rhythm until your child gets the hang of it.
- After a while you will see your child learning new words that begin with a variety of letters. This is also building their vocabulary.
- You can do different categories: rhyming words, colors, things that begin with a certain letter, nouns, verbs, etc…
Road Words
- This game can be played anywhere. Pick a letter or word; while you’re driving encourage the kids to find that letter or word.
- Come up with a funny sound they have to make when they see the letter or word.
- This game can be played anywhere words are around.
- If at a store you may have to do a specific movement. Example, when you see the word ‘save’ you will have to hop three times
Encouraging at home
Use your daily time with your children wisely.
- In the car turn off the radio, get off your cell phone, and talk with your child. Always ask them to tell you all about their day and things that happened at school.
Use conversation starters like
- What was the funniest thing that happened today?
- What was your favorite subject today?
- Who did you spend time with at recess?
- Did anything new happen today?
Know what interests your child
- Explore those subjects with them. Even if you don't like it, get over it, it's not about you! This will not only keep your child interested inlearning but it will also strengthen you and your child's relationshi pmaking it easier for them to talk to you about other issues.

Keep a positive attitude about school
- Never use school as a punishment
- If you had a bad experience with school don't let it affect your child's experience.
